For the 9th time since 1991 we invite researchers to participate in the Dortmund Fuzzy-Days. I am very glad that our conference has established itself as an international forum for the discussion of new results in the filed of Computational Intelligence. Again all papers had to undergo a thorough review: each one was judged by five referees to guarantee a solid quality of the programme

Machine Learning – Modeling Data Locally and Globally presents a novel and unified theory that tries to seamlessly integrate different algorithms. Specifically, the book distinguishes the inner nature of machine learning algorithms as either “local learning”or “global learning.”This theory not only connects previous machine learning methods, or serves as roadmap in various models, but – more importantly – it also motivates a theory that can learn from data both locally and globally.
This would help the researchers gain a deeper insight and comprehensive understanding of the techniques in this field. The book reviews current topics, new theories and applications.

The complexity and sensitivity of modern industrial processes and systems increasingly require adaptable advanced control protocols. These controllers have to be able to deal with circumstances demanding rather than simple responses, circumstances where an imprecise linguistic description is often more relevant than a cut-and-dried numerical one. The ability of fuzzy systems to handle numeric and linguistic information within a single framework renders them efficacious in this form of expert control system.
Divided into two parts, Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control first shows you how to construct static and dynamic fuzzy models using the numerical data from a variety of real-world industrial systems and simulations. The second part demonstrates the exploitation of such models to design control systems employing techniques like data mining.

Fuzzy logic is a relatively new concept in science applications. Hitherto, fuzzy logic has been a conceptual process applied in the field of risk management. Its potential applicability is much wider than that, however, and its particular suitability for expanding our understanding of processes and information in science and engineering in our post-modern world is only just beginning to be appreciated.

The theory is supported by exercises and computer simulations relating to real applications. More than 200 programs and functions are provided in the MATLAB® language, with useful comments and guidance, to enable numerical experiments to be carried out, thus allowing readers to develop a deeper understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of this subject.
