This is a response to Mr. Kessler’s review. First, he needs to state that he has a biased interest in his review, that he used to work with Walter at Hill & Associates before he went to work for Juniper. Second, I was the reviewer for the first edition of the book and Walter had a lot of misconceptions about SONET in the original draft. So much so that my name is menitioned in the acknoweldgements in the first edition. Since I worked as a manager dealing with SONET at both AT&T as well as Cisco Systems, the book leaves a lot to be desired.

He is very verbose in his writing style and has never worked in the field to give the reader a real understanding of the issues that come with understanding SONET – both services and equipment. There are other books in the field that do a better job – Andy Reid is a good one from the technical side for example – but this author needs to change his writing style and tone it down for this book to be considered for readership seriously.
